Which dosage form suits which ingredient?
Ingredient chemistry narrows the choice before any commercial consideration applies. Oil-soluble materials such as fish oil, vitamin E and evening primrose oil do not fill well into two-piece capsules and are normally delivered as softgels. Live probiotic cultures are sensitive to heat and moisture, which makes gummy and liquid formats technically difficult and capsules the conventional route. Highly bitter botanical extracts often drive a decision toward capsules simply because taste masking in a powder or gummy would require a large quantity of flavouring and sweetener.
High-dose ingredients present the opposite problem. Collagen peptides, creatine and dietary fibre are typically dosed in grams rather than milligrams. Delivering 10 g of collagen in capsules would require roughly twenty units per day, which no consumer will sustain. These ingredients are effectively powder or liquid products by default, and a brand that insists on a capsule format for them is usually forced to under-dose — which then creates a claims problem, since the label cannot support a benefit the dose does not deliver.
